Building the foundation

Having made up my mind, I started to search for the right place to further my study. I first started to look at Masters in Sports Science/ Sports Management. I hesitated after I’ve done some research on the course contents because they appeared to be too hard for someone who had no background in science (I was a business student even in high school). Given the monetary investment in enrolling in a master degree, I wasn’t confidence enough to bet so hard. Instead, I bought books from overseas about football and coaching (there are no such books being sold in HK) and learnt it myself. This was when I also did some intense searching on the internet about football coaching materials which were very useful and helpful.

Reading, browsing, watching matches, a few months past and I was still in the middle of nowhere. No doubt I am slowly building up my own library and knowledge but I know I need a ticket to enter the industry: I need the qualifications. Although I manage to gain the Advanced Trainer in Speed, Agility and Quickness Certificate (and it proves to be very useful in my current career) during these reading months, I know I need to do my badges at the end of the day.

One thing worth mentioning is that I was job-less during these few months (actually this period lasted for more than 12 months when I have no income at all). I regard these few months very crucial as I could have easily dropped out and looked for another job that doesn’t interest me and now I won’t be starting up this blog to tell you about my coaching journey. More importantly, it is also these few months that allows me to build the foundation for me to continue in pursuing a career as a coach.
